Hi, I'm Anushka; I'm 14 and spend my spare time knitting, drawing, reading, writing and making useless things. This is my crafts blog. I have double-jointed fingers which are magic indeed. They can bend backwards and are no help with playing the cello. That's a terrible picture of me.

Stash Enrichment!

Just documenting proof of the fact that I have managed to spend £34.78 on yarn in John Lewis today.....

IMG_0684.jpg

2x Rowan handknit cotton
2x Debbie Bliss cashmerino aran
2x Cygnet woolrich aran
1x Rowan kidsilk haze
1x Rowan kidsilk spray.

All set for Christmas now! What a brilliant load of yarn! :D Though I'm scared away by the amount I've spent, it's going to make 6-7 Christmas presents. So that's only like £5.50 per present.

Cool.

Blue Jewelery

I granted a wish for blue jewelry in the Ongoing Wish Swap Round 3. I sent three sets - two bracelet/earrings and one earrings/necklace. I love all these pieces, especially the wire swirls! They are definately my favourite, though I did really get sick of them, because the coiling of wire took ages, and I got so many blisters by the end of it. The spotties are glass beads from Bali, and the button bracelet was made from the buttons I got in the lucky dip bags I bought at the craft fair in Birmingham.

Enough chatting, on with the pix! (clicky for bigger photographs)

I almost want the pieces back!

Very busy weekend

Well, look who got all organised this weekend!

Before:

During:

IMG_0645.jpg

After:

IMG_0647.jpg

Mmmm, unused yarn!
(nearly all of this is cotton chenille that my mother bought completely on impulse)

IMG_0648.jpg

My pretty knitting books
(Stitch 'n Bitch, Stitch 'n Bitch Nation, R2 winter edition, Complete Guide to Needlework - some great lace stitches in there  - some Rowan mags, Nursery Rhyme Knits, How to Crochet, Katie's Knit Pretty)

IMG_0650.jpg

And some of my fiction books:

IMG_0652.jpg

I'm totally on a role this weekend. Since Saturday morning, I have:
  • Gone to Music School
  • Done 5 pieces of homework (only maths to do now)
  • Filled out my entry for the UK travelling journal (which is really cool)
  • Finished my stepdad's camera cozy
  • Finished up a couple of swap items - not all, unfortunately
  • Sewn up my aunt's MJ slipper (!!!!!!!!)
  • Woven in ALL the ends of the Wavy Gravy scarf.
  • Written out a pattern for a keyhole scarf, which I designed myself!
  • Tidied my knitting corner! It took ages, but I'm so glad that I did it. :D

Now I still have to:

  • Finish writing out the music for the school play
  • Cast on for my aunt's spiderweb capelet
  • Make everything that's needed for month 2 of the Animal Mail Love Swap.
  • Maths homework & revision
  • Upload the rest of my Beatles albums to my iPod.
  • BREATHE.

Hobbycraft Show

Hi! I went to the Hobbycraft Show at the NEC in Birmingham on Saturday! It was good, though really hectic and full of rude old grannies. Most of the stuff was for cardmaking, which I'm not into. Unfortunately, they were only 4 knitting stalls - three of which were crammed 100% full of novelty yarn - and revolting novelty yarn at that. The fourth, halfway decent one, had some pretty, unusual yarns but I saved my money in order to buy....

IMG_0568.jpg

I guess it doesn't look like that much, but it felt so! I got:
  • Hot glue gun (!!!!!!!!!!!)
  • Silver & blue wire - for jewelry
  • More paint
  • 2x lucky dip packs of buttons (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
  • 2x 8x8" canvases (£1.50 each)
  • 1x 10x12" canvas. (£2)
  • 2x 8x10" canvasses (free!)
  • Welsh dragon iron-on rhinestones for my godmother, for xmas. (Who is Welsh, and darn proud of it.)

Cool, eh? I've already made a neckalce and earrings set with the wire, and tested out my glue gun! I'm most excited about the canvasses, though: got 5 for a fiver!

header & stitch markers.

New header image! I kept meaning to change it, the roses were only meant to be temporary.

In the world of crafts and SWAPS (!), I made the following stitch markers, which are suitable for crochet (as they are "openable").

I'm trying to "get into" crochet, but so far it's just made my knuckles hurt.
